Embracing Life's Unpredictability: A Journey of Reflection and Redemption

Life has a way of throwing unexpected twists and turns our way, challenging us to navigate through the highs and lows with resilience and grace. This past week, as I celebrated my son's 16th birthday and my husband and I marked our 18th wedding anniversary, I found myself reflecting on the rollercoaster ride that has been our journey together.

In the midst of the celebrations, it's easy to get lost in the nostalgia of happier times, but for me, it's also a time to acknowledge the darker chapters of our story. I vividly remember the early years of our marriage, when our son was born, and our battle with addiction cast a shadow over our family life. We were parents grappling with our demons, struggling to provide for our children while grappling with the consuming grip of drug addiction.

Looking back, I can't help but feel a pang of regret for the moments lost and the pain inflicted on those we loved. We did our best in the midst of chaos, ensuring our children had their basic needs met while wrestling with our own demons. But the truth is, addiction consumed every aspect of our lives, leaving scars that still linger to this day.

It wasn't until 2011, when our boys were still toddlers, that we finally found the strength to break free from the chains of addiction and embark on the journey to recovery. Yet, even in recovery, life remained a constant battle, with its fair share of struggles and setbacks.

This past year, in particular, has tested us in ways we never imagined. We've experienced profound loss and endured unimaginable trauma, yet amidst the darkness, we've also been blessed with the arrival of a new family member, Levi, who will soon celebrate his first birthday.

As I look to the future, my hope for Levi is simple yet profound: that he will suffer less than the generation before him. That the lessons learned from our struggles will pave the way for a brighter, more hopeful future. We may not have all the answers, but we're committed to breaking the cycles of the past and forging new family traditions rooted in love and resilience.

Life is unpredictable, filled with twists and turns we can never anticipate. But through it all, we cling to the belief that every challenge is an opportunity for growth, every setback a chance to rise stronger than before.
